Austria can expect calm and sunny weather for the next few days. According to Thursday’s forecast by Geosphere Austria, high pressure will increasingly spread across the country starting on St. Stephen’s Day. The northeast should also see a few hours of sunshine. Temperatures could reach double digits, most likely in the west of the country.
Today, St. Stephen’s Day, high pressure will increasingly prevail. In the morning, residual high fog-like clouds will linger, especially in the southeast and south. Early morning fog is expected in the Danube region and the Rhine Valley. However, it will clear up everywhere during the day and the sun will shine across the country. For the most part, only a few harmless veil clouds will pass by. The wind will be mostly light, with moderate easterly winds in the western Danube region. Temperatures will rise from minus ten to minus one degree in the morning to one to six degrees, with the highest values in the west.
High pressure will bring sunny and calm weather on Saturday. Fog or high fog in the lowlands and some valleys will mostly dissipate during the morning. By noon at the latest, the sun will shine uninterrupted across almost the entire Alpine republic, with hardly any clouds visible. The wind will be mostly light, with moderate to brisk westerly winds in Lower Austria in the evening. Early temperatures will range from minus ten to minus one degree, with daytime highs of zero to ten degrees, with the mercury climbing highest in the west once again.
On Sunday, Austria will be on the edge of a high-pressure area. In the northern and eastern lowlands, but also in some inner-Alpine valleys and in the southern lowlands, there will be local fog and high fog patches in the morning. These will dissipate quickly, and then it will be very sunny, as in the rest of the country. The sky will be mostly cloudless. The wind will be mostly light to moderate, with only the northeast experiencing moderate to brisk northwesterly winds. Temperatures will range from minus eight to plus one degree in the morning, with highs reaching zero to plus eight degrees during the day.
The high-pressure weather will continue on Monday. This means that there may be local patches of fog and high fog in the morning, but these will quickly clear. Otherwise, the sun will shine from a cloudless sky in many places. Only from the Mühlviertel to the Weinviertel will a few clouds move in from the north, which may cloud the sunshine somewhat. The wind from the west to northwest will be light to moderate in the south and west of the country, and moderate to brisk elsewhere. Temperatures will rise from minus ten to zero degrees to zero to eleven degrees during the day.
On Tuesday, a northwesterly upper-level flow north of the main Alpine ridge will bring compact cloud fields. The sun will rarely show itself, and there may be some snowfall at times from Upper Austria to northern Burgenland. Rain is also expected at the lowest elevations. In the rest of the country, however, it will remain very sunny and dry throughout the day. The wind from the west will be moderate to brisk in the foehn valleys on the southern side of the Alps and in the northeast of the country, but otherwise only light. Early morning temperatures will range from minus twelve degrees in snow-covered valleys to plus two degrees with wind. Maximum temperatures during the day will reach minus three to plus six degrees.
